World War II helped Huffman Trucking to move forward increasing their demand between the Midwest ports all the way to the East Coast ports offering their carrier services. Huffman Trucking started with only a single tractor-trailer and nine years later the company increased their size to 36 trailers. The U. S. Government, manufacturers of plastics products, and electronic consumer products are some of the primary customers who Huffman Trucking works with. With facilities in Cleveland, Bayonne, St.  Louis, and Los Angeles Huffman Trucking employs over a thousand personnel divided between drivers and support personnel. Team B analyzes the best option for Huffman Trucking between going public through an IPO, acquiring another company within the same industry, or merging with another organization. Comparing the strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats of all three options will help Team B to make a smart decision. Strengths of Each Approach Huffman’s Trucking has many advantages for a going public. The most distinct advantage is the financial benefit in the form of raising capital. Huffman’s capitals are to fund research and development, fund capital expenditure or even used to pay off existing debt. An increased public awareness of Huffman’s company is another advantage because IPOs mostly gain publicity by making potential customers aware of their products. Merging will keep the company’s growth with the competitive advantages of both firms. Merger also enables the company to rebuild and strengthen the organization as firms involved in the transaction share strategies to make the organization stronger and more reliable, thus eliminate weaknesses in the firm. Weaknesses of each approach Hoffman Trucking also has to be aware of the disadvantages of developing an initial public offering. The initial public offering can be a risky investment for Hoffman Trucking as well as for anyone that is looking to invest in him or her. For the individual investor, it is tough to predict what the stock will do on its initial day of trading and in the near future because there is often little historical data with which to analyze the company (Investopia, 2010). The future values of the company going public are also of uncertainty. With no guarantee for the business or investor, the values of the stocks will eventually end. It is a risk that the business and investors will take with an IPO. The option for an acquisition also has some weaknesses that go with it. If Huffman Trucking decides to acquire another company to expand, they need to realize this can be quite pricey as well. As Huffman Trucking discovers another company as they want to acquire that as, they will probably pay a premium price per share for the new company. This is done to make sure all shareholders of the acquired company are happy. This is the one of the few ways to able to let their shares go. If one may benefit more than the other, the other may look for other ways to demand more for their business. With this it is tough to decide who and how many shares each merging benefactor should receive when finished. This is about coming to an agreement which is not always as easy as it may seem. Opportunities of each approach What Huffman Trucking has an opportunity to do is to invest in projects so they can sell their securities in exchange for cash. Because the company is growing this will financially give them funding to use so their projects will produce assets that will be immediate. What this will do for them is to grow IPO rapidly and bring more revenue with acquiring the funds to produce with new projects. Because Huffman Trucking is a business in the transportation industry this could acquire another company is the same type of business. Many transportation companies in the country they could merge with so their industry would be on big corporation. They could not do without the transportation industry otherwise the public would be without these products. If Huffman Trucking merges with another transportation company they would combine all of their trucks with many others with the east coast and the Midwest. This could make their company and other transportation companies much more successful to expand all over the country. Their mission is to be more profitable so they could adapt very well with any other company in the transportation industry today. Threats of each approach The threats that Huffman Trucking must prepare for whether they choose to go public through an IPO, acquire another company in the same industry, or merge with another organization. The threats that Huffman would face with going public through an IPO would be individual investor would not be able to predict what the stock or shares will do on its initial day of trading and in the near future because of the lack of historical data. Most IPOs are of companies going through a transitory growth period, and they are therefore subject to additional uncertainty regarding their future value. Another threat to an IPO would be when a private limited company such as Huffman Trucking becomes a public company; it is subject to more regulation and rules of the State. If Huffman Trucking chose to acquire another company in the same industry the potential for financial loss would be initially because of factors such as expenses for consolidating brands, quipment, and merging the organizational structures. Management styles, employee expectations, processes, and cultures must be also because the employees of acquisitions will ultimately drive performance, consume payroll dollars, and be the most from an acquisition. This is a huge threat to acquisitions because of the affect of not addressing these issues will slow and perhaps stop the integration process and be costly in both sales and profits (Boyer, 2010). Mergers also have threats that must be taking into consideration. According to Wests Encyclopedia of American Law, whether a forward or backward integration, the newly acquired firm may decide to deal only with the acquiring firm, thereby altering competition among the acquiring firms suppliers, customers, or competitors. Suppliers may lose a market for their goods, retail outlets may be depriving of supplies, or competitors may find that both supplies and outlet are not receiving what they need. This raises the concern that vertical integration will foreclose competitors by limiting their access to sources of supply or to customers. Vertical mergers may also be anticompetitive because their entrenched market power may impede new businesses from entering the market. Christopher Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus and Modern Psychology Due to the fact that I recently finished reading Spirit and Will by Gerald May, I find my perception of Christopher Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus filtered through that book. May, a psychiatrist from the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington, D.C., makes a rather courageous attack on a sacred cow, modern psychology. He asserts that "Psychology is fundamentally objective, secular, and willful whereas the core identity of religion is mysterious, spiritual, and willing" (10). He criticizes religion for having sold out to psychology in its attempt to remain "relevant." Like Dr. Faustus, we have pursued knowledge with a passion in order to master ourselves and our environment. Psychology represents just one of those areas of knowledge. Through a combination of drugs, behavioral conditioning and psychotherapy we have become relatively successful in altering behavior or even basic emotions and states of consciousness--so much so that religion seems only too happy to borrow ps ychological techniques to fill the pews of churches or to satisfy the hearts of its worshipers. May targets three primary attitudes in psychology: the coping, happiness and growth mentalities (11-21). It is true that psychology can help us to cope with stress, to achieve a measure of happiness and to transform our difficulties into opportunities for personal growth and increased creativity. But valuable as this may appear, it cannot provide us with an ultimate reason for living. In the past we believed that religion could solve all our problems (physical, mental or spiritual) if we turned up the piety level another notch; now we have swung too far in the other direction. Good, But Not Good Enough Essay

There are times when we feel we must be perfect in order to please others. No matter if we did the best we could do, if it wasn’t perfect we felt like a failure. We want the approval that comes with perfect ness. Every day we see a new commercial or magazine showing an image of a hunky, greased up muscle man or an anorexic model with tons of make up air brushed on her body and society compares you with that image. We as a people tend to use those false images of beauty as a scale to rate the rest of the population by and if you do not fit in that category you are not beautiful. So we strive to be accepted to be approved by the rest of society. In Janice Mirikitani’s poem â€Å"Suicide Note† a young Asian American college student apologizes to her parents for not being perfect. Perfect in school and perfect in life. Even though the girl worked very hard and did very well it wasn’t good enough in her mind and maybe in her parents’ mind to be worthy of her parents’ love or life itself, and so her only option was death to atone for her sin of imperfectness. The poem begins: How many notes written†¦/ ink smeared like bird prints in snow./ not good enough not pretty enough not smart enough / dear mother and father ./ I apologize/ for disappointing you / I’ve worked hard, / not good enough / harder, perhaps to please you.(373.1-9) Clearly the girl in this poem the girl is apologizing for much more than  grades. She has set unrealistic standards for herself and has a lack of self worth all because she cannot achieve these standards. She cannot change the way she looks, yet she is apologizing for not being â€Å"pretty enough†. She also goes on to talk about how life may have been better for her if she were a son instead of a daughter. She would be worthy of love because she associates strength, confidence, beauty and smarts with being male. â€Å"I would swagger through life / muscled and bold and assured,†(373.17-18). Who do we blame for this young girl’s negative self-image? Is it society’s fault that she values being a male more than her own life or is it her parent’s fault for not making her feel the love that she so desperately needs right now? Obviously she was never appreciated for her work because she’s constantly apologizing for not being â€Å"good enough† throughout the whole note and talks about how failure, disappointment and disapproval drive her closer to committing suicide. Maybe if her parent’s voiced how they felt about her this tragedy could have been prevented. Further into the poem she talks about how she will atone for her sin of imperfectness. â€Å"My sacrifice I will drop / bone by bone, perched / on the ledge of my womanhood,/ fragile as wings†(373-374.31-34). She is toying with the idea of jumping from a ledge knowing that death will be the out come of her actions. Who will be there to stop her since she doesn’t matter? † Not strong enough†(374.35) she utters next. She doesn’t yet have the courage to fly like a baby bird from a nest off of her window ledge. She pictures herself as a sparrow â€Å"sillied and dizzied by the wind†(374.39). The reason she pictures herself as a sparrow because a sparrow is a little bird that is not considered to be a really important creature. Compared to a hawk or an eagle, a sparrow is a peasant bird, or an everyday bird. People have noticed sparrows before, but never pointed them out like they would if they were a hawk or an eagle. They would praise a hawk or an eagle, not a sparrow. Each line in the poem is building the young girl up to that state of mind where only death is the escape. She’s thinking of all the things that have led her up to this point. â€Å"not good enough not strong enough / not smart enough†(374.48-49) Maybe this way someone will finally notice her. She hopes that † they will bury / my bird bones beneath / a sturdy pine†(374.57-59). The pine refers back to the beginning where she pictures herself as a male child. The pine represents what would have happened if she turned out to be a boy. This could also mean, that in the afterlife she wants to be as strong as a pine, hoping that she would be brought back in the afterlife as a boy. The suicide was a way for the college student to be noticed. It was very unfortunate that she had to take her own life just to get attention, and to get appreciation for all the things that she had done and still it wouldn’t be good enough for her parents.

The class ends with excitement as the madam promises the student of the French class for a trip to view more things and identify their names. They planned to go to an animal park. The day for the next lesson comes in, and the class was attended thoroughly. I think this was because of the promise Kathleen made to her student. She too ready for the learning trip. Everyone is set with a notebook, a pen, a ruler and a pencil. â€Å"Great,† she says as she found out every student was in class in time and set as usual. The students with their teacher board the school bus, and they are taken to the park for the study. Because it could be hard to draw what they all found they were guided to have a table of columns and rows where they could write the name of the object they met in the park in English then aside from the French name. This made it simple for them to understand well as some were not in a position to name some of the objects in English. Being very busy during the day, they found themselves taking meals in the evening as they left the park.
